Status Quo

In the digital age, customers expect to be able to fulfil their wishes at any time, anywhere and in comfort. This is especially true in financial matters. No wonder, therefore, that direct banks, which operate exclusively online, have benefited from this trend so far. Branch banks like the savings bank Cologne Bonn however close increased locations.

Personal advice, individually tailored concepts for the customer and his needs – all these seem to be still required – and a bank with stationary branches could enjoy an important competitive advantage.

But the branch concept must change. In the past, branch customers would seek advice on financial matters, make cash deposits and withdrawals or make bank transfers. Today, many of the traditional services are available online, which means that fewer and fewer customers come to the branch. As a result, more and more locations are being closed down.

The Challenge

Digitization opens up completely new possibilities for designing unique branches and applying innovative consulting and service concepts.

Modern design, applied robotics and AI, cooperation with cafés or artists, “CoWorking Spaces”, new or mobile approaches to personal advice, individual service offers or completely new approaches – everything is possible.

So the question is: How can today’s possibilities be used to innovatively design branch banks and their offerings and adapt them to today’s customer wishes?
