Joyful Diversity with AI

Workplaces today are more diverse and globally connected than ever before - and this is great! Promoting diversity, fairness, equality, and justice in the workplace is not only the right thing to do, but also a natural driver of innovation. That's exactly why the BMW Group wants to take diversity to the next level and tackled the following question: How can AI solutions help to support diversity, gender shift, inclusion, and equality in working environments and communication?

Winning Team

The 4-member team is comprised of Human Resources, Data Innovation, and Safety Specialists from Plant Spartanburg, USA whose goal is to remove the predisposition of prejudgment during the recruiting and hiring processes.  "Knowing that it's a global challenge and we won, it feels wonderful! It's a lot of effort that's been put into this and to see everything come to definition, it's really exciting." - Bias Busters

Many manufacturing companies have low women representation in their workforce and are having difficulty improving it. Qualified women may see a posting, but due to the language it contains, view the job and company as unappealing. To solve this, Bias Busters developed a web app that automatically assesses the language used in job postings using a dictionary of terms identified by research as either appealing or unappealing to women.  This app will allow recruiters to ensure qualified women will want to apply to open positions and the concept can be scaled up for other language assessment needs. "It's already fully usable. We're going to do exactly what we said we're going to do - scale it up for the world." - Bias Busters
